Library Celebrates Chamorro Month!

During the Month of March, our library had the honor and privilege of having several guest speakers visit our school. Speakers included: Oral Storytellers; Louis Gombar and Victor Tu and Local Author: Joan Awa who wrote, Juan and the Coconut Tree.

Welcome Dr. Vardell!
On March 1, 2016, book author Dr. Vardell shared her book of poems with students at BMS. Students were exposed to the different types of poetry and books written by her. Students also had the opportunity of getting the author's autograph and picture taking with her.

GEARING UP FOR FEST PAC!

On December 9, 2015, Mr. Art De Oro and Mr. Simeon Palomo, presenters of the Fest Pac demonstrated how to put together a floral arrangement using ordinary plants and flowers typically grown on Guam. Their presentation to our 8th grade students from elective classes at BMS included the history, locations of participating regions, and the different categories of Arts. This presentation was a success in educating and preparing our students for the upcoming Fest Pac event. We sincerely thank Mr. De Oro and Mr. Palomo for their efforts, time, and hard work in making this presentation possible!

Edible Book Contest

STUDENT CATEGORY!
Students from Mrs. Lacno's Class competed in our first ever "Edible Book Contest" held on Dec. 16th. Our participants used food such as cakes, cookies, fruits, etc to depict a story book of their choice. The winners are... Author Visits BMS LIbrary
Douglas Arvidson, author of the novel "Brothers of the Fire Star" visited students from the Reading and Language Arts classes of Ms. Somera, Ms. Ancheta, Mr. Ducusin, and Mrs. Mendiola. The author shared his book and conducted a mini lesson meant to inspire students to write stories. His fictional novel is a story of two boys from different cultural backgrounds and who must learn the secrets of Pacific Island navigators.

special thank you to Mr. Arvidson for sharing his book and expertise.
5th Annual International Games Day!

The Library is pleased to announce our 5th Annual International Games Day @ our school library. During the week of November 16th thru November 20th, libraries around the world will be celebrating International Games Day@ your library. During this event, the library will focus on the social and recreational side of gaming. Gaming at the library encourages patrons of all ages to interact with diverse peers, share their expertise and develop new strategies for gaming and learning. At the library, kids can socialize with their friends and play board and video games while surrounded by books, technology and a real world of knowledge (ALA.org) GO ROADRUNNERS! AHH, BEEP BEEP! |

Digital Learning Day

Digital Learning Day, held on February 05, is an event celebrated by libraries across America about the use of various technology. Our BMS students enjoyed a day of being tech savvy! Students were engaged in numerous educational iPad apps, computers, and unlimited internet access. This also fulfills our school's ESLRs indicators "Adapt to changing times" in today's 21st century.

Library Places Eleventh in the Annual Phone Book Roundup
In May of 2014, the BMS Library earned $200.00 from the Recycle Phone Book Roundup! Thank you Roadrunners for bringing in your old phone books. Your contribution to a good cause paid off... Ahh...Beep, Beep!
Gaming Day
In the month of November, BMS participated in "International Games Day," an event shared with school libraries across the nation.
